Hewison Foundation Celebrates Record Fundraising Year

Hewison Private Wealth
4 Jul 2024

The Hewison Foundation has raised over $100,000 in the 2023-24 financial year and supported two local charities with grants.

The Hewison Foundation, a philanthropic initiative of Hewison Private Wealth, has finished the 2023-24 financial year on an absolute high following a successful fundraising effort over the past 12 months. The Foundation raised over $100,000 through various events and activities, including the AS White-Hewison Foundation Golf Day and the Foundation Trivia Night. The Foundation also received a generous donation from Hewison Private Wealth, which matched the funds raised by the foundation in the 23/24 financial year.

The Foundation’s record fundraising year has enabled it to support two local not-for-profit organisations with grants of $10,500 each. The grant recipients for this year are C Care and Pancare Foundation, both of which were nominated by the Hewison Private Wealth staff.

C Care is a charity based in St Kilda that provides over 2,000 meals a week to those facing food insecurity. The meals provided are tailored to the recipients to ensure their food preferences and nutrition are considered. They also offer an innovative “pantry” to those in need, where items can be selected by clients from the pantry and have them delivered to their home. The Foundation’s grant has helped them to expand their reach and impact, especially following the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pancare Foundation is a leading charity committed to inspiring hope, raising awareness, supporting families and funding research for upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Upper GI cancer is a term for the group of cancers that affect the upper digestive system, including the pancreas, liver, stomach, bile ducts and oesophagus. They are considered low-survival cancers, resulting in more than 17% of estimated deaths. Those affected by upper GI cancer are still confronted with a low chance of surviving beyond five years. The Foundation’s grant will assist in funding research into upper GI cancers, with the aim of improving diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for patients and their families.

The Hewison Foundation was established in 2015 with the vision of creating positive social change in the community. Since then, the Foundation has made grants exceeding $160,000 to various local not-for-profit organisations and is forging towards building the corpus to $1M. The Foundation also engages the Hewison Private Wealth staff in the grant-making process, by inviting them to nominate causes close to their hearts which the Foundation board and vote for the final grant recipients.

The Foundation’s Chair, Chris Morcom, said he was extremely proud of the Foundation’s achievements and thanked everyone who contributed to its success.

“We are delighted to have reached this milestone of raising over $100,000 in a single year, which is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our staff, clients, sponsors and supporters. We are also honoured to be able to support two amazing organisations, C Care and Pancare Foundation, with our grants this past year. They are both doing incredible work in addressing some of the most pressing issues in our society, and we hope that our grants will make a difference in the lives of those they serve.”

The Foundation looks forward to an exciting year of events and activities in 2024-25, and encourages anyone who is interested in supporting its mission to get in touch.
